Where my passion lies and what I want to explore further

In the course of my teaching experience, I literally fell in love with the character of the Javanese kid - humble, polite, and well-mannered. I also realized that many of the principles taught in a Montessori school - such as compassion, community spirit, cooperation, and mutual understanding -  are intrinsic to the Indonesian culture and I am really curious about exploring the effect of the Montessori philosophy on children who are surrounded by these values not only at home and in their community but also at school. I am really eager and enthusiastic to further explore and assist in developing the potential of children, educated using Western methods and surrounded by traditional Javanese or Asian values and religious principles.

Ideally, the school should prepare children for life by introducing them to the issues and problems they are going to face. They should acquire the necessary skill set so as to be useful not only for themselves but also for their family, friends, and the society as a whole. It is crucial to create such an environment that immerses, rather than isolates, as it is the case with traditional kindergartens/ schools, children in their society.

It is through game, exploration,  investigation, discovery, experience that children learn. Therefore, the role of the teacher is to direct the attnetion of children towards mysteries and puzzles without giving them ready-made solutions.
