The things I wanted the kids to know
How did I arrive at this paradoxical situation when I went to learn and was instead entitled to teach? And how this opened the way to the fulfillment of my dream, namely being surrounded and working with kids. What are some of the moral lessons we talked about and I hope they managed to internalize.
- each of the kids had to build and decorated the home of the flower they will grow, namely the pot. They had to help each other by finding out how to prepare the soil, plant the seeds, and prepare the best conditions for the plant to grow. The lessons learned: to help each other when following a common goal and to take care of others (being they plants, animals, people) by remembering them and devoting some time to them every day.
materials needed: cups, napkins, seeds, soil, transparent foil
- How to teach kids to swallow the anger by offering them M&M's?
Ask the kids to take a candy and put it in their mouth. Tell them that now they have the task to swallow it without me knowing and I will try to guess the exact moment they swallowed it. Is it possible to guess? Especially when they were so enthusiastic about being able to do it without me knowing. Lesson learned: in life, swallow the anger or insults so that no one understands about it and forget about them.
- Build an imaginary friend out of plasticine
- Teach the kids to be tolerant and open to differences. How? Offer them a breakfast from diverse corners of the world: lokum (or Turkish delight), croissants (France), dates (Arab countries), and ask them to eat the breakfast with fork and knife.
- Teach the kids the five main principles by letting them link each to an element of a ceramic house which is also a penny bank
