Central Idea: through play we express our ideas and come to new understandings
Can we play with sand? What can we build?
Building a toy out of natural materials. Playing imaginative games by using available natural resources. The goal is to instil in children the desire to work with natural materials. In my part of the unit I wanted to place emphasis on play with toys, fashioned out of objects that can be found outdoors, rather than commercial toys with predefined meaning and purpose.

An interesting experiement is to hide the toys in the room and inviting children to play. Another interesting thing to do is to swap the toys of girls and boys and observe their reaction. Boys playing with cooking utencils become quiet and very focused while girls engaging with helmets and cars become more wild. Do the kinds of toys define and determine the behavior of children?
